I was supposed to be hauling my family down to Johnson City TN this weekend to stay at a beautiful lakefront property with many of our friends; however, the family that owns the property had their primary home flooded yesterday. Inside that garage were 1965 and 1967 Mustangs and a 2016 Ram.

No flood insurance as they are not in a flood plain. Absolutely devistated the entire first floor, taking out a home office with a ridiculous amount of tech (computer programmer and hobbiest).

Vacation is cancelled, and our friends are trying to put the pieces back together. Apparently the water fell as quickly as it rose, something happened with the municipal sewer systems because they have experienced far more rain in the past and had no issues.

Probably the only silver lining here. If it was something wrong with the system that caused the flooding they’ll probably get reimbursed by the city for the damage.

That is a real shame, all around.

Nobody ever needs flood insurance, until they do.

Maybe instead of cancelling the trip altogether, they could use a hand cleaning up?

If it was something wrong with the system that caused the flooding they’ll probably -have to sue in order to - get reimbursed by the city for the damage.

Fixed

There was a storm that dumped 4" of rain in an hour or two that caused a bunch of flooding in the city here a few years ago. They figured out that the storm drains were getting clogged with leaves and debris. They implemented a much more rigorous street cleaning program and a drain inspection schedule, it appears to be working. It’s unfortunate, but nobody thinks about that kind of stuff until it’s too late (or they do, but it’s not a priority).

One of my houses flooded because someone dumped a sofa into the ditch. It floated downstream and got stuck in the culvert that drains the neighborhood.

It doesn’t look too deep from the garage door, the vehicles could well be salvageable. The Mustangs because they’re very simple electrically and could probably just be pressure-washed clean (especially if it’s done post-haste), and the Ram because it’s higher off the ground and it looks to me like it was only flooded up to maybe 2 feet. If it stayed below the door sills, I’d say it’s recoverable.
